Between the babouches*, black smoke stacks
mark stalls in the Place Jemaa el-Fna*,
where meat barbeques pound dribbling fat
down the stomachs of those who'll sit down.
*babouche: brown-and-cream banded moroccan snail
*Jemaa el-Fna: founded 1062, an early Place de la Concorde, whose name translates to "meeting place of the dead" because the severed heads of Moslem dissidents were displayed there.
